(born 1906, died Mar-03-1938, 31 years old) Russia

Viktor Viktorovich Kogan was a chess player from Tomsk. He was also a chess organizer, holding the position of "Chairman of the Tomsk district chess section."1 In 1929 Kogan played 1st board for the Siberian Technical Institute in a team match against Tomsk State University, losing his game against Pyotr Izmailov .2 In 1937 Kogan was arrested by the Dalstroy NKVD and charged with counterrevolutionary Trotskyist activities. He was convicted on March 3, 1938 and shot dead the same day.1
