"Chess club" NS ". Issue No. 10 (1257). On a wave of memories https://sibscana.com/new/_shahmatni...

Nevertheless, everyone who at least once came into contact with Gaiduk (albeit virtually) could not fail to indicate this in his memoirs, since at that time he was a really outstanding figure. And not only because he was practically the permanent leader of the Irkutsk chess. Gaiduk as a whole was a great authority in sports circles, and when the arrests began in this environment, the repressions could not but affect him. In addition, he was the head of the department of international affairs in the "East Siberian Pravda", where many people were also killed, so that it was all the more difficult for him to avoid all this. In the spring of 1938, he, like dozens of other sports figures, ended up behind bars. True, he was not shot, but his life was broken, and after returning to duty in 1939 he did not live long. A year and a half spent behind bars severely undermined health:

Irkutsk Siberian championship 1934 [rusbase-1]

Irkutsk regional championship 1935
[rusbase-2]

Tournament of East-Siberian region- 1935 [rusbase-3]

Championship of East-Siberia krai- 1935 [rusbase-4]
