  MissScarlett: Reading Observer, January 10th 1920, p.8:

<Reading chess has, however, lost a great supporter in Mr. E. Pearson Sharp, who died suddenly on April 16th, 1919, aged 52. Twenty-five years ago he founded the chess column in the "Reading Observer," and most successfully conducted' it until his death. Devoted to every branch of the game, he had a special faculty for getting into touch with the best problem composers, who enriched his chess column with much fine original work. At correspondence chess he was especially adept, and this and his work as editor made his name known among chess players of every Continent. Of an artistic temperament, which chiefly expressed itself in his enthusiasm for the game, he was passionately fond of music, and an excellent black and white artist, while as an entertaining conversationalist he endeared himself to a very large circle of friends. Altogether a strong and interesting personality, whose early decease is much regretted by his fellow-townsmen and chess players.>
