stone free or die: Richard Buz was a leading industrialist born and bred in Ausburg. Despite being so influential, and an esteemed member and leader of the Ausburg CC, finding his obituary proved a bit difficult. It was to be found in <Vereins-Nachrichten (Aug 1932) p820>, featuring a photograph of the man and details about his life (though no mention of chess!).

I am almost certain that he spent at least part of a year in the US, specifically in NYC, where he was a member and office holder of the <Manhattan CC> in 1895.
He on the passenger list of the <Augusta Victoria> in May 1895, returning to Hamburg.
Why do I think the American <R. Buz> was the same as the Ausburg? Partly because of his brief but well documented participation the <Manhatten CC>, ending with the return to Europe. But also because of the following important connection to Walbrodt.
As noted in Walbrodt's obit in <1902-10-02 - NYT - p9>, it was R. Buz who discovered him in a Berlin cafe, and introduced Walbrodt to the Berlin Chess Society.
If I have time and inclination, I'll try to post the entire obit on Walbrodt's page.
