Stonehenge: FWIW, he lived at South Oxford Street:

jnpope: That appears to make him out to be the James M. Shanahan who ran a hardware business at 198 Canal, living at 12 South Oxford according to the city directory.

That data got me to a family tree giving:
Born: 10 Jun 1825 Limerick, Ireland
Died: 3 Mar 1885, New York, NY USA
NOTE: Emigrant Savings Bank record stated that he was a native of Limerick City.

His obit confirms the date of death and indicates he was "the well known wholesale dealer in undertakers' supplies" and died due to pneumonia.

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial... doesn't confirm the date of birth.

His death certificate indicates he had lived in the US for 35 years (so he came over 1849/1850) and was 61 years of age at the time of his passing, which does correlate to the 1824/1825 year of birth.

jnpope: Not sure why his death certificate gives his age as 61. The certificate doesn't give a year of birth, so perhaps this was an estimate, either that or the family lore is wrong and he was born in 1823?
