Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-04-09  SBC: This is Peter Unger WIlliams (1775- 1837)

Along with William Lewis, Williams was a chess student of Jacob Surratt, "Professor of Chess."

Lewis, as the director of the Turk, played a game with, and recognized his opponent as (the director couldn't see his opponent), Peter Unger Williams.

After this, Lewis convinced Maelzel to let Williams in on their secret and to solicit him to be a director.

Williams helped operate the Turk from 1819 until the Turk left for America.
