Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-26-22  stone free or die: Likely his name was <K. Nebermann>, given this:

https://books.google.com/books?id=8...

In the English press he was noted as being a <strong player> in his game against Pillsbury:

https://books.google.com/books?id=R...

Beware there is the possibility of confusion with a <Edmund Nebermann>, who wrote a beginner's chessbook in ~1926. Winter notes a <E. Nebermann> appearing in the turn-of-the-century literature as well:

<Even less can be suggested at present about the Nebermann v Bau game. German chess magazines of the early twentieth century occasionally mentioned a player named E. Nebermann in Berlin, one instance being on page 65 of Deutsches Wochenschach, 14 February 1904.>

C.N. 8814 (end)

Sep-26-22  stone free or die: Edmund Nebermann is also credited with the invention of the <Beroliner Pawn> in Hooper & Whyld's Companion. The normal pawn capture / move are interchanged.

Just thought I'd mention it as a curio.

Jun-16-23  Alan McGowan: A search of Google Books for "K. Nebermann" schach brings only one result, that from the Wiener Schachzeitung 1901, as shown by <stone free or die>. It showed his position at the Berliner Schachgesellschaft as Schriftführer.

This suggests a typo.

There are numerous references to E. Nebermann and the Berliner Schachgesellschaft:-

1903 Deutsche Schachzeitung, February, p61- Schriftführer at the club.

1904 DSz, February, p59- Schriftführer at the club. August, p252, crosstable for club tournament.

1905 DSz, February, p59- Schriftführer at the club.

His name appears in Berliner Schachführer 1931, a small Yearbook of Berlin chess edited by Kurt Richter. His address was Fichtestr. 16, Berlin.

That address is shown for Edmund Nebermann in the 1930 Berlin Address Book.

It was still his address at the time of his death in 1946, March 2. His Berlin death record shows that he was born 26 December 1878 in Berlin.
