Dec-08-13  thomastonk: Charles Enschedé was from 1909 to 1910 president of the Dutch Chess Federation NSB. He was also president of the "Haarlemsche Schaakvereeniging", where he died suddenly during a game of chess.

He received a doctoral degree in Leiden, was knight of the order of Oranje-Nassau and worked for the company "Joh. Enschedé and Zonen" (Joh. Enschedé and Sons), then a printing plant founded 1703 in Haarlem (nowadays "Royal Joh. Enschedé" is a printer of banknotes, stamps etc. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joh._E...)).

Charles Enschedé was an expert on typefounndries and published 1908 a book in French, which appeared 1978 in English as "Typefoundries in the Netherlands from the fifteenth to the nineteenth Century".
