  Sally Simpson: This must be (could be?) the same chap that wrote detective novels set in the village of Chesworth;

Assiac in his 'Adventures' gives the full score game where he missed a win v W. Winter and went onto lose, but just the score no other details. I'll see if I can dig up any further details.
