A huge sensation is his victory in the second round over the top seed Wei Yi in only 19 moves.

IM Viacheslav Diu, a former Far East Region champion, is from Khabarovsk, the largest city and the administrative center of Khabarovsk Krai, Russia, located 30 kilometers from the Chinese border. He was the winner of the Far East Region Chess Championship 2011.

Mar-13-17  cro777: IM Viacheslav Diu (2421) is one of the best players of the Russian Far East.

He regularly participate in chess championships of the Far Eastern Federal District, the largest of the eight federal districts of Russia. He was two times the district champion (2011 and 2005) and won the title of a vice-champion in 2014.
