Dec-15-11  Caissanist: According to Tim Krabbé, Roele was a Nazi sympathizer who played under pseudonyms after the war to "evade purging": http://timkr.home.xs4all.nl/chess/r... .
Dec-15-11  AlphaMale: In many of his games, he played under the guise of <Charles Roele> and fooled everybody.
Dec-15-11  sneaky pete: <citizen of France> in the biography is a rather humorous description, when you read that after "migrating to the south" he was living in Paris "under the bridges".
Dec-15-11  whiteshark: His Fide-card: http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?...

Elo: 2132
inactive

Dec-15-11  whiteshark: Still alive? At least the following French net-bit from 2010 indicates it:

<Au passage, le phénomène Charles Roele-Coeuraad, 93 ans joueur FIDE à plus de 2100 !>

  MissScarlett: Imbibing the Roele-Aid.
Apr-16-22  Jan Kersten: I think his name is garbled. His true name is Coenraad Hermanus Roele. His birth date is correct and he was born in Arnhem, Netherlands. sources: Municipal Archives, Nijmegen, Netherlands and wiewaswie.nl By the way, Coeuraad is just Coenraad with the n upside down.
