Ivan Lendl's father, Jiri Lendl, was a lawyer, a chess master, junior champion of Bohemia and Moravia, and played in the Czechoslovakian chess championship. He was a top-15 player in Czechoslovakia. In 2001, he played Kasparov in a charity simultaneous exhibition in the Czech Republic. Lendl was also a strong tennis player and was President of the Czech Tennis Federation in 1990.
