JOOST PINEDO
(died 1890) Netherlands

[what is this?]

Joost Pinédo

He is known as one of the first chess players in Dutch history who was skilled in blind simultaneous chess. Pinédo was a member of the Vereenigd Amsterdamsch Schaakgenootschap (VAS) and also the founder of the chess magazine Morphy.

Pinédo gave a demonstration in 1862 with blind chess against six to ten boards at the same time. This made him the first Dutchman to more or less compete with the level of three big names in the chess world: Paul Morphy (who in 1858 played with eight of Paris' strongest chess players, with a score of +6=2), Louis Paulsen (who could play blind chess against ten boards at the same time) and Joseph Henry Blackburne.
