  Jonathan Sarfati: According to 25 Years in the NZ Championship by Ortvin Sarapu, Scott was an experienced Wellington player who was also deaf: “He told me (by his customary ‘note’) that his deafness was no handicap in chess, but rather an advantage, as he could concentrate undisturned on his game.”
