  Phony Benoni: According to Louis Uedemann (Chicago Tribune, Feb. 18, 1900), Leech was the former champion of Indiana and also invented a telegraphic chess notation. This is particularly interesting since Uedemann himself is credited with such a notation, begging the question of how they communicated in those situations.
