The Sicilian Dragon
Member since Dec-07-07
I am a professor of Philosophy at Burlington County College; I have been playing chess since Dwight David Eisenhower was president. I was champion of my colleges in 1975, 1983-86. I was champion of Ft. Dix 1978-1981. Nuff said.

Feb-18-09 Topalov - Kamsky Candidates Final (2009) (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: This is a mismatch, Topalov is vastly superior.

Jan-08-08 Schlosser vs NN, 1940 (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: 11. Qc4 is elegant and simple.

   Jan-04-08 A Baburin vs S Fokin, 1989 (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: I was looking at a double Rook sac, but it comes up short. 29. Rc6, Qc6; 30 Rg6+, hg; 31. Qg6+, Kf8; 32. Bd6+, Ke8; 33. Qg8+, Kd7; 34. Qf7 getting back a Rook.

   Dec-31-07 R Luscombe vs Keene, 1962 (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: A thematic Rook sac to follow up with the mate.

   Dec-28-07 C Bielicki vs Smyslov, 1964 (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: 28. ... h3 was obvious, but I thought perhaps, 29. ...Rg4 was better, than 29. ... Rc4. But, 29. ...Rc4 is a good decoy/driving away and accomplishes the goal.

   Dec-27-07 R Nezhmetdinov vs O Chernikov, 1962 (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: Familiarity with Nezhmetdinov, made this puzzle quick to figure out. His games are filled with tactical themes. In this case a fork and a skewer. As DarthStapler observed, way too easy.

   Dec-20-07 G Ilivitsky vs Keres, 1955 (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: 38. Rd8+ is not as efficient, the Rook must first be displaced. Yes you could use 38. Rd8, but the King hides and the threat Rh2+ can slow the down the process. 38. Kh4 is quicker and doesn't allow any time for Black to respond. When one has the initiative, one wants to ...

   Dec-15-07 M Janata vs H Lehmann, 1969 (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: I thought perhaps 31. Nb2, Qb2 32. Rc7, threatening3 3. Re7, if Black plays 32. .. . Qe8; then 33. Rb7, followed by R1c7. But alas.

   Dec-13-07 Nunn vs S Hmadi, 1985 (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: Made to order win, after 21. Bh6, Black's King is a fugitive from White's attack. After 30. Nf5, Ke8/Kd8 lose the Knight. 30. ... Kf7; invites 31. Rg7+, Ke8; 32. Rc1c7 nets the hapless Bishop. Black avoided the messy business by resigning.

   Dec-11-07 L B Hansen vs Timman, 1994 (replies)

The Sicilian Dragon: ZZZZZZZZZ, yawn, what problem?
