Nov-01-14 FIDE Grand Prix Tashkent (2014) (replies)

erasmus: It looks like Baadur got annoyed with Giri's ironic comments when he said that "Black is not so much attacking after all" and that "this move (29...Qe8) shows that there isn't a huge attack".

   Aug-20-14 ChessBookForum chessforum (replies)

erasmus: Another fellow chessgames.com kibitzer kindly directed me to this page. On a different page I asked a question in regards to books or articles about playing the White side of the Sämisch system of the Nimzo-Indian. Would any of you know whether a specific book has been written ...

   Sep-10-13 M Manik vs T Oral, 1995 (replies)

erasmus: Just another Manik monday

   May-10-13 P Carlsten vs M Karttunen, 2002

erasmus: <BipolarFanatic> 17. e5 was already the decisive mistake, as after Ne8 the threat of 18. ...d4 cannot be averted anymore.

   Sep-06-11 Rubinstein vs E Tholfsen, 1928 (replies)

erasmus: Does anybody have some interesting background information about this game? Rubinstein missed two tactical blows in this game and was mopped up pretty convinvingly. Was Tholfsen (already) a well known player at the time?

May-21-10 Kasparov vs Kamsky, 1989 (replies)

erasmus: There is a stronger continuation that Kasparov missed here. On move 19 he can win a piece with Rxd7!, since after Qxd7 20. Ne5 (followed by Nxc6) is stronger than what he played in the game. (I often make this "mistake" myself, where I just have to switch the move order to win even ...

   Jul-08-08 A Jerome vs W Shinkman, 1874 (replies)

erasmus: <Why not 18.dxe4?> I think it is because of 18...Rxf1+ 19. Kxf1 (19. Qxf1 would lead to Qxg3+ followed by mate) Rf8+ 20. Ke1 after which both Bf2+ and Rf2 look strong. Bf2+ wins the queen for the bishop and the rook and after Rf2 the same might happen or black will get a ...

   Jun-02-08 Hans Arild Runde (replies)

erasmus: <frogbert> You are right. ÎâÎÄèª 0-1 ²·ÏéÖ¾(¿ì) does read like Wu Wenjin - Bu Xiangzhi 0-1 (Rapid). ¿ì (pronounced kuai) means 'fast' or 'quick'. So it looks like FIDE made a mistake.

Jun-01-08 Lutikov vs Taimanov, 1969 (replies)

erasmus: In Taimanov's book it says that the rook went to e1 on move 35. The rook is also on e1 in the diagram a few moves later with a comment after 36...Bg2! (a great move by the way :-) ) "A study-like idea of deflection -- it is impossible to take the bishop with the king due to the loss
