sirGeoff: Ray, <i may make a comeback one day>, how, theoretically speaking, would a GM prepare for a comeback after 30-odd years? At my level it was just a case of picking up where I left off, but where would a GM start? Would you still play at 2510, or would rust have sent you down a

   Jul-14-11 Queen's Pawn Game (D02) (replies)

sirGeoff: I've played the London a bit recently on FICS, but after 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Bf4 I often see 3...Nh5. Now what should I do? After 4.Bd2 Nf6 it's not the London anymore. Any ideas?

sirGeoff: <yalie: Methinks there is a real chance the ghosts of Savoy Theatre circa 1993 will be laid to rest in Belgium.> Any truth in these rumours Nigel?

   Feb-28-11 Bobby Fischer (replies)

sirGeoff: In pictures of the 1992 match, Fischer is pictured playing under the US flag. Why was this - I thought he wasn't the biggest fan of the US at the time?

   Jan-26-11 Viktor Korchnoi (replies)

sirGeoff: <cunctatorg: I am very glad Victor Korchnoi is really active! I would like to see him participate in the heat of an International Tournament again and again!>He's playing in the Gibralta tournament at the moment - a win yesterday gets him paired with Caruana today.

   Oct-21-10 A Nimzowitsch vs Rubinstein, 1912 (replies)

sirGeoff: <chesschampion11: Why he resignd???? after:30 Nh6+ Kh8??[mate in two!!] 31 Rf8+ Qg8[forced] is 32 Rxf8 MATE!!>In your line 31...Qg8 isn't forced - 31...Kg7 would be better. Rubenstein would play 30...Kg7 here anyway. At my level of chess I would have played on, but not ...

Jul-07-10 Marshall vs Capablanca, 1909 (replies)

sirGeoff: Other sources say the move played was 16.Rfc1 - anyone care to confirm this?

   Jun-24-10 S Dahlke vs A J Goldsby, 2010 (replies)

sirGeoff: <Catfriend>...Qd2+ was indeed what I looked at, and ...Bd3 is trickier. I think it then turns into chasing the Black King around the board, so still a draw (but not as easy - I hope I'd see it otb). Wednesday puzzle: 43. White to play and draw?

   Dec-11-09 Jose Raul Capablanca (replies)

sirGeoff: And let's start another thread. Would anyone expect, given his reputation, that Capa would do any better than Carlsen at blitz against Kosteniuk?

sirGeoff: <MrMelad>I listened to the Huddersfield game on the radio on Saturday. It was a very good game...
