   Aug-05-23 Quinteros vs Browne, 1981

CaptainEvans: This game's on YouTube - fascinating what went through the players' minds as they articulate aloud their moves.

   Apr-20-21 J A Fuller vs G T Crown, 1946 (replies)

CaptainEvans: And yet Crown went on to beat Kotov the following year. Gives hope to all of us!

   Apr-10-21 Unzicker vs L Barden, 1951

CaptainEvans: 14....Nxe4?? threw the game away.

   Dec-06-20 O W Rigaud vs J Cooper, 1974 (replies)

CaptainEvans: Gutted Rigaud has just this 1 game on the database. I feel he had so much more to offer us...

   Jul-14-20 T Karolyi Jr. vs Hodgson, 1984

CaptainEvans: I can remember Bill Hartston saying of this game at the time that after 6.Qd3 White should then have moved the Queen back to d1 and added that sometimes it is better to admit you're an idiot rather than allow it to be proven!

   Jan-12-20 W Ju vs Goryachkina, 2020 (replies)

CaptainEvans: Not a classic!

   Dec-28-19 Moshe Czerniak

CaptainEvans: Harry Golombek said of Czerniak that he was the type of player who believed that if he could only surprise his opponent in the opening he would always win. Against the very best he was unsuccessful but he scored many a victory over lesser lights.

   Dec-28-19 M Czerniak vs I Bilek, 1971

CaptainEvans: Czerniak commented after the game that 4....a6 was too slow - better was 4...d5. 16.Ne5 with aim of Nd7, but after 16...Nc6 Czerniak now can't play Nd7 due to the Bd4 rejoinder. After the game, Bilek preferred 24...Qb2 where he reckoned he could still have drawn. 32....Rd5 was ...

   Dec-16-19 S Makarichev vs Kholmov, 1983

CaptainEvans: Black ruthlessly exploits the shortcomings of the Mackenzie Variation.

Apr-06-19 NN vs Tarrasch, 1932 (replies)

CaptainEvans: 13.Qxh8 was very greedy
