Obviously, I live around Chicago. Right now Magnus Carlsen is my favorite player.

Jun-25-16 Anand vs Giri, 2016 (replies)

Chicago Chess Man: Nice tactic by Anand. After 26...Rxe6 27. Rxe6 Qxe6 28. Re1 wins material on account of the back rank checkmate threat.

   Jan-03-14 J Lechtynsky vs K Blaha, 1985 (replies)

Chicago Chess Man: 10...Qa5 11.Nxc5 Qxc5 12. Nxe6 does not really solve anything for black....

   Dec-28-11 Nepomniachtchi vs K Miton, 2011 (replies)

Chicago Chess Man: <erniecohen> in the line you gave, why wouldn't black play 18...Nxc5....?

   Oct-09-11 Anand vs N Babu, 1988 (replies)

Chicago Chess Man: I think a better pun would have been "You's a very bad Anand! Very bad!" (Babu Bhatt from Seinfeld)

   Jul-30-11 C Ross vs L Rabbitte, 2011 (replies)

Chicago Chess Man: Got a great pun for this game: "Hunting Wabbitte"

Jul-26-11 M Mulyar vs Van Wely, 2011 (replies)

Chicago Chess Man: After 17.Qxd2 Nf3+ 18. Kf2 Nxd2 19.Bd3 doesn't white at least get the piece back? I suppose he's still a pawn down with a wrecked pawn structure and black's got the two bishops to boot.

   Jul-24-11 M Roiz vs Eljanov, 2011 (replies)

Chicago Chess Man: Maybe they transposed moves and black played 8..c6 and then 9...nd7?

   Jul-19-11 N Noritsyn vs Rozentalis, 2010

Chicago Chess Man: White's continuation leaves him two pawns up as well. It just simplifies the position by removing two more minor pieces.

   Jul-19-11 Onischuk vs B Amin, 2011 (replies)

Chicago Chess Man: 34...Qh7 35. Nf6+ Rxf6 36. Qxh7+ Kxh7 37. Rxf6 looks pretty good for white here. Is there anything more convincing that I am missing?

Jul-10-11 Kostic vs Noteboom, 1931 (replies)

Chicago Chess Man: <CG> This would make a great end of the week puzzle at move 36. Nd8+! is great.
