Dowell318: I think the sacrifice 52.Rxf6 was worthy of consideration.

   May-10-07 R Byrne vs Benko, 1963 (replies)

Dowell318: As far as I can tell, if Byrne had played 88.Re8, he could have held the draw. My analysis is that 88.Rf7, the move played, loses.

Dowell318: You know, I really don't get it. This week has been a STRANGE week! We had an extremely difficult Saturday puzzle, an almost IMPOSSIBLE Thursday puzzle, and now a relatively easy Sunday puzzle. Has someone new started working at Chessgames.com??

Dowell318: <OK--who got all the moves of this puzzle, from 23 to 65?> Me. Got it in 5 seconds.(Yawn) Need a challenge.

Dowell318: I've played around with this endgame quite a bit, and amazingly, after the rook exchange it really seems like black is winning. Perhaps 50.Ke2 is much better.

   Mar-22-07 L Spassov vs P Popov, 1977 (replies)

Dowell318: <boson: 20. Qh5 also wins.. If Black plays 20....Nf8. there follows 21. Qf7! Ng6 22. Ng6+ hg6 23. Qg6 and mate next move. So Black must move either 20... h6 or g5 and then 21 Ng6+ wins a piece. (If 20. . g6 , the knight check leads to mate via Bh6.)> 21....Ng6?? No, black ...

Dowell318: <artemis: Dowell318: The point that I am making is that if you want funding of some sort, it is probably best to, at the very least, pretend that you are not totally incompetent.> It was a joke dude. Relax. No one wants you to blow your lid off over there.
