Jun-16-04 Sicilian, Rossolimo Variation (B31) (replies)

Gower: In my opinion this is the best anti sicilian there is. I've had good results with it.

   Apr-01-04 Scandinavian (B01) (replies)

Gower: Yeah, here its the scandinavian, which i consider to be an OK opeing. And I agree with those comments before, that it is very risky for white to accept either of the pawn sacs.

   Mar-30-04 Uncommon Opening (A00) (replies)

Gower: Yes, that would have rather a big psychological effect on me!

   Feb-23-04 French Defense (C00) (replies)

Gower: I don't mind facing the queens gambit as black. Black has several rock solid lines he can play.

   Feb-18-04 Caro-Kann (B10) (replies)

Gower: I agree with unsound that the fantasy variation is a good variation to try against the Caro Kann. Another one worh considering is the kings indian attack which is flexible and dynamic. It can also be played against the sicilian and the french. White has pawns on e4 and d3 then castles

   Feb-18-04 Caro-Kann Defense (B12) (replies)

Gower: Most caro kann players just keep it very solid if you play the fantasy variation on them. They play 3..e6. Then white has to be content with a slight space advantage.

   Feb-18-04 Petrov Defense (C42) (replies)

Gower: Really? The book says that black can easily equalise after Nc4, mainly because when black plays d5 later it's going to cost white more time. But each to his own of course.

   Feb-17-04 King's Pawn Game (C44) (replies)

Gower: I think the Hungarian is a slight edge to white. If after 3. Bc4 black wants to play for a win, the two knights is probably the best way to go about it.

Feb-17-04 Sicilian, Scheveningen, Keres Attack (B81) (replies)

Gower: Zorro: Yes the yugoslav is a very sharp line against the dragon, but I would consider it the critical test, even if it is what black expects. The dragon is currently in trouble theoretically. Look in any chess book and it will give the yugoslav as the critical line in the dragon.

Feb-16-04 Two Knights Defense (C55) (replies)

Gower: Thats only neat if you are someone who minds getting a few draws with black. Personally I don't.
