I'm rookfile. I created this account originally with the idea of kibitzing, independently, on the Shulman vs. World game. But: chessgames says that you shouldn't do this on a game in progress, so I will honor their wishes.

   Jul-26-07 Pillsbury vs H Wolf, 1903 (replies)

InnerVoice: I guess you don't like the way White won. For example, I don't think 27. Qxb6 deserves a question mark, if all the analysis you give after that indicates 'no salvation' for black. I remember reading, perhaps 20 years ago, about the other pretty sacrifices white had as ...

   Jul-24-07 S Popel vs Gligoric, 1952 (replies)

InnerVoice: Popel was a solid master, but here he is taking on a top ten player in the world.

Jul-24-07 Panno vs Miles, 1979 (replies)

InnerVoice: My guess is this was a time loss. You're right: black does not have a killing blow here.

Jul-24-07 Smyslov vs Pachman, 1947 (replies)

InnerVoice: Well, at the end of the game, white has a plan of Rd1 and swapping queens on d6 or d8. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot black can do about it. If the queens ever come off, the rook eats on a7 and b6, and see you later.

   Jul-23-07 Bobby Fischer (replies)

InnerVoice: Well, if you want to say that Fischer was wrong for having a 9 to 9 tie clause, and Karpov was wrong for having a re-match clause in every match he played as world champion, I won't argue with you.

Mar-17-07 Keres vs Botvinnik, 1948 (replies)

InnerVoice: Sorry, I was signed on with my InnerVoice user. By the way, let me take this opportunity to mention that in the <profile> of these users, it clearly states that I'm rookfile.

Mar-14-07 Spassky vs Fischer, 1960 (replies)

InnerVoice: <Plato: <BarneyRubble> (a.k.a. RookFile) At least you've stopped trying to pretend that you're someone else. I guess you realized it was pretty hopeless by now :) Indeed, I give a good deal more credit to the average intelligence of the <chessgames> crowd than you ...

   Jan-15-07 Viktor Korchnoi (replies)

InnerVoice: In fact, you can take the perfectly reasonable position, as Reuben Fine did, that upon the death of Alekhine, it was NOT necessary to hold ANOTHER world championship event. Meaning that either Keres would receive the title of world champion outright, or Keres and co-winner but ...

InnerVoice: <lazydaisy: those nasty envious people who slandered the quality of his play.> The guy was hanging rooks.
