   Jan-13-15 Giri vs Karjakin, 2014

Madmartigan: Giri made a comment on the Tatasteel stream today on this game, saying something like: "I made a genius breakthrough with g4 and h5, and the next thing I knew, I had to resign." Nice guy, with a great capability for self-mocking.

   Nov-18-11 B Kurz vs K Treybal, 1904 (replies)

Madmartigan: Anyone who plays the King's Gambit, but isn't prepared to play the Muzio (5. 0-0!? in the game line) deserves to be punished like this.

   Sep-13-11 K Krantz vs J Sellberg, 1974 (replies)

Madmartigan: David2009: I think 25...., Ke7 is answered with 26 Rxd8! instead of your 26 Rxe6+. The options are then: a. 26...., Rxd8 27. Qxe6 # b. 26...., Qxe5+ 27. Qd7 # c. 26...., Kxd8 27. Qxe6 with a huge advantage. Am I missing something?

   Apr-08-11 Alekhine vs M Prat, 1913 (replies)

Madmartigan: The biggest blunder of this game was resigning. After such an attack, you should allow your opponent to mate you.

Apr-01-11 Rybka vs Nakamura, 2008 (replies)

Madmartigan: @Zan: correct. Because the computer is two exchanges ahead, it refuses to take the draw but plays 174. c4. The fact that the other queen-side pawns will fall and black will be able to promote is beyond its horizon at that point.

Jan-13-11 Chigorin vs Blackburne, 1898 (replies)

Madmartigan: Why on earth didn't black promote to rook? Missed a chance to go down in history for having mated two full queens down...

   Oct-14-10 H Ohman vs G Buck, 1931 (replies)

Madmartigan: I can remember winning a tournament game with the "three pawns gambit" as white as well some years back. While not objectively correct, the mere fact that after 7. ..., gxh2 8. Kh1 my opponent started to think for 20 minutes to me was worth the pawns already, :).

   Sep-18-10 I Balanel vs Larsen, 1956 (replies)

Madmartigan: That last diagram from Once is quite a sight. How often do you mate a white king on e6?

May-01-10 Ivanchuk vs Topalov, 1996 (replies)

Madmartigan: 34..., Rdf8 is a big mistake. Topalov could have won this game by 34..., d4 35 Qc1, Rh4!, winning at least the exchange. This was the last game of the tournament. Had Topalov won this, he would have been the tournament victor, instead of Ivanchuk...

   Mar-24-10 S Landau vs T ten Kate, 1929 (replies)

Madmartigan: Maybe it's superfluous, but it should be noted that "Ten Kate" is a typically Dutch surname, which consists of two parts. Thus, "Ten" is not a first name. The final position is rather esthetically pleasing, I must say.
