Mar-22-14 World Championship Candidates (2014) (replies)

Marvol: <Rascal Nikov: this draw with black is really good for Anand. he is virtually 1/2 point up then Aronian. And he has four whites in 6 games. He can very well win this tournament.> But he will need to get something from these Whites. So far, apart from outplaying Aronian, he's ...

   Mar-21-14 D Andreikin vs Topalov, 2014 (replies)

Marvol: < Sally Simpson: A refreshing and entertaining game. White moved his Queen, both Rooks, King's Knight and King's Bishop only once. Instead he moved his King five times and had Topalov resigning in 27 moves.> Moved his king five times and his queen's knight six times, including ...

Mar-19-14 Topalov vs Kramnik, 2014 (replies)

Marvol: <notyetagm: Topalov vs Kramnik, 2014 Topalov and Danailov must be rubbing their hands with glee after this game. :-)> Sure seems so, Danailov tweeted: <Beautiful:) Who said revenge is a dish best served cold?He was right:) pic.twitter.com/zP9plFnBb5 — Silvio Danailov ...

Nov-23-13 Anand - Carlsen World Championship Match (2013) (replies)

Marvol: <RookFile: I think this is the type of game Anand needed to play in this match, against Carlsen: Fischer vs Ulf Andersson, 1970> An exhibition game of the strongest player at the time against a 19-year old amateur? What jest is this? The only way anything like this game would ...

Sep-20-13 Ushenina - Hou Women's World Championship Match (2013) (replies)

Marvol: I can't find details of the Menchik - Graf match of 1934, while I also see reports that that may have been an informal match. Does that make Ushenina - Hou the shortest "match match" (as opposed to "KO tournament final match") for the chess WC - <ever>?

Marvol: <CG.com> What's the story with the Geneva tournament? Me and at least one other person can only see one group and the games from that group (Kramnik, Shak, et al.). I tried switching crosstabel views but that doesn't change a thing. Any thoughts?

Jun-30-13 Geneva Chess Masters (2013) (replies)

Marvol: Er, why can I only see half of the players and only games from the first round? Hello? Chessgames.com? Anybody out there?

   Jun-05-13 Borislav Ivanov (replies)

Marvol: <SoUnwiseTheKnight B4: And the theory we may one day see a 2700 cheater, i doubt it. I think a good dose of pride comes with all that talent.> I say two words I say "Arkadij Naiditsch" :). I agree with twinlark and tamar, any 2700+ that can cut out even one-move blunders once ...

May-30-13 Dominguez Perez vs Morozevich, 2013 (replies)

Marvol: This 30.Q(d8-)b8? immediately reminded me of Anand-Kramnik, Zurich 2013, with Kramnik's 21.Qd8-b8?? after White opposes the queens. Eerily similar.

Mar-25-13 World Championship Candidates (2013) (replies)

Marvol: Interestingly, two of the players I would have considered the most 'solid' (drawish) now have the highest and shared-second-highest number of decisive games: Gelfand at 4 and Radjabov at 5. Admittedly Radjabov has a high number of deciders for all the wrong reasons :|.
