Sep-17-05 FIDE World Championship Tournament (2005) (replies)

Perkins: <Why's that? Karpov had a great reign as champion, and is the only player(other than Kramnik) to have held his own against Kasparov in his prime. > WRONG Kaspy, in late thirties, and having up and down periods, was beginning to decline, as all great players do. this was ...

Perkins: Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire have voluntary taken their names out of the record books for alleged steroid cheating. They have expressed shame at behavior. Thus, Hank Aaron and Micky Mantle remain home run kings. I can dream, can't I?

Perkins: I think Sammy R kept his accounting job the whole time he was a chess professional. In fact, he probably retired from accouting before he stopped playing competitively, if in fact he ever did stop playing. On a related note, John Entwistle, of the WHO, kept his civil service job all

   Sep-15-05 Edmar Mednis (replies)

Perkins: One of my favorite chess authors. Mednis, Soltis, Nunn, the big three.

   Sep-15-05 Jay Bonin (replies)

Perkins: I was visiting the Polgar Chess Center a few weeks ago, and saw Jay's name on some sort of quad matchup pairings for a tournament that had been recently held. I guess he takes that V train out to Kew Gardens when there arnt enough tournaments in the city.

Perkins: You would recognize a chess player, the way you would a movie star, or politician?
