Prisoner of Zelda: One thing about chess 2000-2005. With Kasparov slightly off peak, a few new players began to have legitimate clamim to world's best. Kasparov sort of became "First among equals." But I don't think there is much difference in playing strength among the other top 3 or 4 ... |

Prisoner of Zelda: Exactly. Match chess is different than tournament chess. The Fischer/Spassky rematch in 92, in Yugoslavia had Fischer winning by 5 points, against another grandmaster. In a tournament against a variety of GMs, over the same period of time, would be Fischer be +5? No way ... |
