Ray C: The viewer says "three time repetition claimable." Indeed, the same position appears after move 99, move 101 and move 114. A pity that Black didn't see it.

   Dec-13-14 E Diemer vs K Locher, 1948 (replies)

Ray C: <WannaBe> 19. ... fxe6 20 Nxe6 isn't quite mate; Black has 20. ... Qf5, for all the good it will do him.

Oct-15-14 Short vs Nunn, 1980 (replies)

Ray C: <greed and death> If White doesn't recapture, can he otherwise defend against 43. ... Qxc3 ? If White exchanges queens, the pawn on b3 is toast, and little more stands between the two black rooks and the white king.

   Oct-10-14 H Nagel vs A Lenz, 1994 (replies)

Ray C: <The17thPawn> If 22 ...Rxf2, then 23. Rxf2 and the Black queen has no immediate way in.

   Jul-25-14 R Borngaesser vs H Seegers, 1984 (replies)

Ray C: I must be missing something. 22. ... Rg8 cuts the king off from what would have been a flight square. Suppose Black plays 22. ... h6?

   Apr-07-14 Anderssen vs E Schallopp, 1864 (replies)

Ray C: The threat of 35. Re8# certainly clears the mind.

Jan-07-14 Naiditsch vs Khenkin, 2013 (replies)

Ray C: <Patriot> Or 37...Qc6. But that doesn't work either: 38. Qd6+ Ke8 39. Qe7#. Move, capture, interpose. All three are available and none of them avail.

   Sep-13-13 I Manolov vs G Sapundjiev, 1963 (replies)

Ray C: What was 14. Na3 supposed to accomplish? The king is in a tight squeeze and this move neither threatens any pieces nor guards a mating square nor offers the king any escape. Maybe this is why I'll never be a grandmaster, but it seems that playing queen-be-gone with 14. Rf1 at least ...

   Jul-26-13 Gheorghiu vs S Momo, 1962 (replies)

Ray C: The final position leaves me thinking that I've missed something. 36. Rxd8 looked daft until I saw 37. Qh8#; but the obvious reply of 36. ...Rxd8 does away with that. What is White up to here? Real slick move, 24. Ng6+.
