   Aug-28-13 World Cup (2013) (replies)
Shelter417: The ability to win more money is insignificant when compared to the power of a Candidates ticket.
Aug-18-13 Tomashevsky vs Aronian, 2013 (replies)
Shelter417: What's the idea behind Nb4?
   Jun-04-13 Portisch vs L Lengyel, 1964
Shelter417: Does anyone happen to know which game tacticalmonster is referring to?
Apr-21-13 Shredder vs Gull, 2013 (replies)
Shelter417: Houdini says that it's a draw as early as move 43! Black apparently blundered with Qe8, allowing White to steal a draw, starting with Rce3. That would have been a truly insane puzzle.
Apr-15-13 Tal - Botvinnik World Championship Rematch (1961) (replies)
Shelter417: I do like Botvinnik and think he's under-appreciated these days, but this match was a huge loss for chess simply because it denied us Tal-Patrosian in 1963 (I presume Botvinnik would have refused to fight his way back through the Candidates). How great would that match have been?
   Apr-08-13 Vassily Ivanchuk (replies)
Shelter417: <When Ivanchuk stayed for quite a while analysing after the game was over one round> I remember at one of the press conferences, he just kept going on and on, rattling off variations. I think it was after Round 10. Anyway, he paused at one point (presumably calculating), ...
Apr-03-13 World Championship Candidates (2013) (replies)
Shelter417: <I had planned to root for Carlsen to beat Anand but am going to root for Anand now. I'm not going to spend the next six months hearing that my guy didn't beat all the others, and knowing it's true.> Ridiculous. It's not as if Anand "beat all the others" in the last two ...
Mar-28-13 Karpov vs Kasparov, 1985 (replies)
Shelter417: <HeMateMe> This brilliant short story by Tim Krabbé:
   Mar-18-13 E Guo vs S Madhurima, 2011 (replies)
Shelter417: Houdini says that 38...Rf8 was the blunder. Black has a winning position in which virtually any reasonable move leads to victory.
   Feb-24-13 Roterman vs D Gedult, 1967 (replies)
Shelter417: I originally thought that 13. Be5 would be a good defense against 12...c5 (it looks like a draw), but Houdini suggests that 12...c5 is actually a blunder that allows 13. Bxg7!.
