Waxmat: i too am playing over this game while reading chernev's 'logical chess'. as to the move order, i *believe* chernev purposely altered it to simplify his message (nf6 is harder to explain to a beginner, and this is only the 3rd game in the book, and he is trying to talk about how good ...

Waxmat: I'm sure you all got this, but I wanted to write it down before peeking at your responses. 1. Nf6 Rxf6 forced (queen is untouchable) 2. Rd8+ Rf8 forced 3. Qd4 deflecting the black Q so now if Qxd4 then Rxf8 is mate, and if Kg8, well then Qg7 also mates. so basically Nf6 and white

Waxmat: Well, I see a forcing line, but it's not what I would call "very easy" for a monday. Hrmph! I just looked and my move wasn't the move played, but I swear it's cool and winning. Even though the move played is "correct", check out the win I found just the same: 45. Rg6+ Kh7 (only ...

Waxmat: I'm going to say Bg4. Black can't take it because of Rh7 mate. But he can't not take it because of Rh7 followed by Rxh5#. The thing is, if Black didn't have his B, he could almost achieve stalemate. Hmmm... I'm going to have search for stalemates now. Or maybe i'll just go to sleep ...

Waxmat: my guess: queen sac for rook and knight (not much of a material sac really, but it looks like white can double rooks on the 7th and there's nothing black can do to stop him then winning the bishop on g7 and/or queen on g8 and/or mate). thoughts? comments? feedback?

   May-16-08 M Velcheva vs S Milliet, 2007 (replies)

Waxmat: Looking for forcing moves, any Q move on the back rank obviously threatens 42 ... Rg8 pinning and winning, but 41. ... Qe1+ is especially forcing 42. Kf4 (not 42. Qf2 Rg1+ ) 42. ... Rg2 43. Qh2 (forced) Qh4+ 44. Ke3 (Ke5

Waxmat: dzechiel, see my note in the Qe3 line, Rxc2 wins 2 pieces, but really your 27 Bxf5 is critical...hm...

   Apr-27-08 I Ivanov vs Kudrin, 1989 (replies)

Waxmat: saintstephen, after the night takes the queen, the rook will take the knight (another few exclams here). now if the king takes the rook, the last remaining rook gives check on the h file. black can interpose his b just to draw it out one more move, but otherwise it's mate as white's ...
