Oct-10-06 Kramnik - Topalov World Championship Match (2006) (replies)

alaTurca: draw agreed

Sep-04-06 Karpov vs Bareev, 1994 (replies)

alaTurca: I would love to see the faces of both players after this move 35 of black:)

Sep-03-06 Granda Zuniga vs Korchnoi, 1987 (replies)

alaTurca: Ha ha! One of the funniest games I have ever seen!

Aug-31-06 Leko vs Karpov, 2006 (replies)

alaTurca: I think Karpov's idea of 13. ... c5 instead of 13. ... dxe4 is unsound. The white pawn on c6 supported by the fianchetto was totally deadly, especially after Karpov exchanged his white bishop with 19. ... Bxc4. The alternative 19. ...Qxd1 20.Raxd1 Bxc4 21. Rxe7 Bb5 22. c7 Ne6 23. ...

Aug-31-06 Reshevsky vs Fischer, 1961 (replies)

alaTurca: This game was part of a match that was arranged between Fischer and Reshevsky. After the 11th game, which is this one, Fischer stopped playing and the result was eventually declared in favour of Reshevsky. At the point both sides had two wins actually. In an interview with ...

   Aug-31-06 Karpov vs Nizovsky, 1967

alaTurca: If 13. ... dxe5 then 14.Nxe5. Also black must follow with 14. ... Bd6 to save the knight. Maybe he feared 15.Nxd7 Qxd7 16.e5 but this seems more speculative as after 16. ... Rfe8 white will fall into difficulty because of his underdevelopment and weak kingside pawns.

Aug-28-06 The World vs A Nickel, 2006 (replies)

alaTurca: I do not think that surprise moves like 2.Na3 have any value when your opponent has three days to decide on his move! I think we should get out of the book soon in more reasonable ways, for example by using closed sicilian. My vote is for 2.Nc3.

   Aug-24-06 R Nezhmetdinov vs Tal, 1961 (replies)

alaTurca: I read that Nezhmetdinov was not allowed to participate in international tournaments until he was forty. And then only occasionally... This is probably why he is not that famous. As to why he was not allowed, I am not sure but this may have something to do with his being a Tartar. ...

Aug-19-06 Ljubojevic vs Kasparov, 1987 (replies)

alaTurca: It is interesting that such a beautiful win by Ljubo over Kasparov has attracted so little kibitzing. The guy here simply outplays Kasparov! Kasparov's pieces are in disorder and he ceases to exist on the queenside.

Aug-15-06 Karpov vs Korchnoi, 1981 (replies)

alaTurca: This game has an antecedent in the 1974 Karpov-Korchnoi Candidacy match. There Korchnoi played 8. ... Bg4 instead of Bf5 and then supported the knight with an f5. Karpov placed his queen on b3 and it seemed that Korchnoi had fair attacking chances on the White King but his attack ...
