Sep-08-10 The World vs N Pogonina, 2010 (replies)

awdunno: Only two people voted to throw the game? I'm expecting a few 5. Qd2 votes soon.

Sep-05-10 Carlsen vs Anand, 2010 (replies)

awdunno: You're right on the money, magikk. This is an extraordinary game considering the time controls. No wonder these guys can give small simuls against ordinary GMs and get a plus score. Well, Kasparov did, anyway:-)

Aug-03-09 M Umansky vs The World, 2009 (replies)

awdunno: <AnalyseThis>: 1.h4 sounds like a joke (well, yeah, actually it is), but recently I watched a bunch of blitz games on the Internet Chess Club between GM Azmaiparashvili (who's been rated in the 2700s) and FM Robbie Adamson that went 1.h4 d5 2.h5 e5 3.h6. (Black might have ...

   Jul-31-09 Morozevich vs Vachier-Lagrave, 2009 (replies)

awdunno: From a theoretical standpoint, the most important move of the game is 13.Nf4!? To my knowledge it's never been played before, and Black obviously got into a lot of trouble with 13...e5. Rybka thinks Black can weather the storm after 13...dxe4!? Has anyone found anything special for ...

Aug-15-08 The World vs G Timmerman, 2007 (replies)

awdunno: Can anyone tell me when our next game starts?

Jul-06-08 Shredder vs Rybka, 2006 (replies)

awdunno: Shredder isn't really a man, of course, but it's quite common to anthropomorphize chess-playing computer programs. Rybka's creator uses feminine pronouns when referring to "her." So now a "girl" is the best non-human chess player in the world.

   Jan-17-08 Fischer vs C Munoz, 1960 (replies)

awdunno: From the time Fischer became a GM until his retirement, this was his only loss to the Dragon. The most remarkable thing is that he lost in a variation (...a6) considered to this day to be dubious at best, and, furthermore, that he lost to a relatively ordinary player (relative to ...

Dec-31-07 Gufeld vs Tal, 1954 (replies)

awdunno: It seems like just about every time White takes on c6 in the Ruy and immediately captures on e5, he winds up struggling for equality. Here a good GM is made to look very bad by a genius.

   Dec-31-07 Alekhine vs V Nenarokov, 1907 (replies)

awdunno: It seems like White missed his chance to create counter-chances by playing 29.g4!? How long would Shirov have taken to spot that move?

Nov-18-06 The World vs A Nickel, 2006 (replies)

awdunno: After 27.h4 Qe7 28.h5 gxh5, I don't see what White has. After, e.g., 29.f6 Qe4 30.Rg3+ Kh8 31.Qg5 Qg6, White had better force a draw or risk a counterattack against his weakened king position.
