Mar-27-04 F Martinez Moreno vs Alekhine, 1945 (replies)

cruzian: Game 41 C.H.O'D Alexander's "Alekhine's Best Games of Chess 1938-45". According the book Alekhine played 25...Nxg2+ instead of 25...Bxg2 given here and in CB Megabase. 25...Nxg2+ seems indeed to be the more stronger move. (but of cource Bxg2 also wins ) Alexander's concluding ...

   Oct-09-03 Torre vs N Whitaker, 1924 (replies)

cruzian: <calli> Calli: 63...Ke3+ 64.Kd5 Kd3 65.a6 Kxc3 66.a7 Rh8 67.b5 seems to win Yes, 64.Kd5! is a better try than 64.Kc5, but after 65.a6 instead of 65...Kxc3? Black still can draw with 65...Ra5!+ 66.Kc6 Rh6+! 67.Kb7 and only now 67.Kxc3. <calli> 58.Rf5+ - Can't quite ...

   Sep-15-03 Zukertort vs W Paulsen, 1881 (replies)

cruzian: One suggestion: Could it be that the actual move was 16.Rf2 and not 16. Rd2? In that case after 18.Bxd5?? 18...Ng4 won exhange in f2 and the rest of moves look sensible enough. (Though 18.Bxd5 still looks very strange. )

Sep-11-03 Yanofsky vs Golombek, 1951 (replies)

cruzian: according online Nalimov tablebase server in http://www.lokasoft.com/uk/tbweb.htm after 98.Dg4+: 98.. Kf1! is draw 98...Kh1? is mate in 3 98.. Kh2? is mate in 12 (White wins Black's Queen after 99.Qh4+ Kg2 100.Qg3+ Kf1 101. Nd2+ But did white miss a forced win ...

   Sep-07-03 Torre vs N Banks, 1924 (replies)

cruzian: This game 18 in Velasco's book 'The life and games of Carlos Torre'. Acc. Velasco Torre had a simple win with 22.Qg3 Ne2+ 23.Bxe2 Qxe2 24.Qh3+ f5 and now 25.Bxg7 or Rfe1. But 'apparently Carlos Torre was feeling his oats that day and wanted to set himself the task of analyzing ...

   Sep-05-03 Torre vs R Smirka, 1924 (replies)

cruzian: After obtaining a won position Torre missed a clear win two times: first 29.Bd8+! Ke6 30.Qg4+ would have won immediately, as well as 31.Qg4+ Kd5 32.Qf3+ Re4 33.c4+ dxc3 34.Rd1 Ke6 35.Be5! In turn, instead of 34...Rg8?, Black could have played 34...Qxc7 and after 35.Rxc5+ Kxc5 ...

   Aug-26-03 Koltanowski vs A Dunkelblum, 1924 (replies)

cruzian: Insted of 20.Re8, why not simply 20.Rxc6

   Aug-17-03 Schlechter vs J Mieses, 1894 (replies)

cruzian: white missed mate in one at move 31. Also, see Winter's Chess Omnibus pp 289-292

Aug-11-03 NN vs Torre, 1928 (replies)

cruzian: Was this game really played by Carlos Torre? The online database at www.chesslab.com has an identical game "Schuster,T-Carls,C, Bremen 1913".
