dm1991: Addition to my previous post. I missed a quicker mate after <27. Kh1 Qxa1+>.

dm1991: I don't know if it's helpful or not for the discussion of Fabi/Sasha offering a draw but below is Peter Svidler's word on this (mind You, it was before the Mamedyarov's game finished). 30s or so later Jan Gustafsson said basically the same. https://youtu.be/Da0DBTizEro?t=17583 ...

dm1991: https://chess24.com/en/read/news/po... <Radek Wojtaszek is second seed behind Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in the Sharjah Masters, a new open tournament in the United Arab Emirates that has a very impressive field.> <Dariusz Swiercz, meanwhile, is studying at Saint Louis University

dm1991: Some small unsignificant statistics trivia. So the Leko award goes to Paco Vallejo. he was prone to short draws but normally he was relatively combative. I thought it will be Aronian, MVL (he's quite drawish) or one of the Russians winning this one. Also Paco does win the early ...

Jan-16-17 Eljanov vs Harikrishna, 2017 (replies)

dm1991: Prediction: a rather complicated fightning draw in 46 moves. As of now i did well in the first round (draw in 30 moves) and poor in the 2nd round (draw in 38 moves). The opening will probably be a complicated English or Reti or maybe even Nimzo.

Jan-16-17 So vs Carlsen, 2017 (replies)

dm1991: <wordfunph: Maybe Carlsen made that statement in the context of him having the black pieces and the So fans' expectancy and fervent prayers that he may finally get a win from Carlsen in regular play.> I think he's just honest. It seems he is often honest even if it means being ...

dm1991: <yiotta: 9...gxf6 10.Nd5 Bxf5 would have been a problem, so what woulkd White have done with the N?> That's why i don't touch Najdorf.

Jan-15-17 Karjakin vs Giri, 2017 (replies)

dm1991: I wonder if a dragon type of play could be fine after a rather toothless 6. a3. For a while i thought Sergey was trying to be Carlsen but it didn't worked out (Giri as black so no shocker). I also feel Giri was a bit slow in the opening. I doubt 6. a3 will be tried again.

   Jan-15-17 Harikrishna vs Aronian, 2017

dm1991: It's a mystery for me, why Hari went for this line. Levon is a specialist in this opening so i don't know what white was hoping for.
