docR: <percyblakeney> iI know shirov was legir challenger but hir record against kasparov is 0-17 i think missing that is no loss.

docR: <jason frost> don't be confused and don't be surprised, i suspect performance enhancing drugs are in almost every major sport.I would not be surprised if some chess gms were abusing adderall, or concerta.Or maybe provigil, can you imagine how much analysis you could on 2 hours ...

   Sep-22-09 Fischer vs O Neikirch, 1958 (replies)

docR: I believe fischers favorite piece was the bishop, karpov the knight kasparov the queen, capa the rook. any other ideas on gm favs

docR: fox news is horrible, they cherry pick their outrage, searching far and wide for anything that helps their political agenda which is right wing, racist and ignorant.

   Sep-18-09 Garry Kasparov (replies)

docR: jim bartle i have a tennis question for you. I think roddick had 2 championship points against federer at this years wimbledon. do you know if there have been other grand slam championship point saved?

Aug-25-09 Kasparov - Kramnik Classical World Championship Match (2000) (replies)

docR: greatest of all time will always be subjective. kasparov certainly has no lock on best ever status. one could easily argue for; morphy, capablanca, or fischer and have legit ammo.

   Aug-14-09 Paul Morphy (replies)

docR: all great chess players are skilled with all the pieces, but in studying many games it does seem some of the greats had their favorites. fischer seemed to love bishops, karpov knights, and capablanca rooks. can anyone else comment on this

Jul-23-09 Pillsbury vs Tarrasch, 1895 (replies)

docR: you may want to check pillsbury's record against lasker.I still contend a match between HNP and lasker between 1895 and 1900 >50% chance HNP wins. but of course we'll never know.

   Jun-18-09 Vladimir Kramnik (replies)

docR: i know that styles make for strange match up issues but kramnik does well against kasporov but shirov gives him fits while kasporov owns shirov. why? i don't see anything other than kramnik knows kasporov better than anyone and gary hated shirov. does that explain it.

   Jun-09-09 Harry Pillsbury (replies)

docR: agree, pillsbury greatness is often underestimated. we tend to reward the very good for a long time, think robert parrish, greg maddux, emmitt smith over the shorter meteoric careers of gayle sayers, jr richard. etc
