   Mar-10-06 Znosko-Borovsky vs Marshall, 1906 (replies)

elh: How do you figure this for a hypermodern opening? The hypermodern approach would have fianchettoed the QB but left the queen's pawn at home, methinks. I think Z-B was playing an old, obsolete defence to the Queen's Gambit with a move in hand.

   Mar-10-06 Queen's Pawn Game (D02) (replies)

elh: EricCartman: That is really quite a dubious claim. White can do better than "an incredibly strong pawn structure"; this opening puts little pressure on Black and lets him set up his defences however he chooses. As BaranDuin observes, you're going to catch some people who don't "see it ...

   Feb-15-06 O Krause vs B Leussen, 1908 (replies)

elh: No, gauer, e6 is not guarded by the king, because the white bishop guards that square, en prise or not. In your "blitz trick" line 7. Ne6 traps and wins the queen. Please, tell me you're trolling.

   Feb-01-06 F Laigle vs Kieseritzky, 1843 (replies)

elh: Bxf4, what the hell was that supposed to lead to? Mr. Laigle should have gobbled it up apace.

   Dec-29-05 Benoni Defense (A56) (replies)

elh: Foolish: Punishing b4 is even easier than in the similar variations of the QGA for White. 1 d4 nf6 2 c4 c5 3 dxc5 e6 4 b4?? a5

   Nov-30-05 T Mok vs Korchnoi, 2004 (replies)

elh: If you like open games for tactics and piece play I think that the exchange French is a very bad choice unless you play a quick c4 and take an isolated pawn. Instead play 3. Nc3 because the Classical or Winawer lead to an exciting game. Bxf7+, poisoned pawns, that kind of thing.

   Nov-12-05 Max Euwe (replies)

elh: You pronounce the "Eu" part the way Peter Sellers in "The Pink Panther" says "There's a BEUM in my REUM!" I'm sure that's helpful.

   Nov-01-05 Euwe vs J B Goodman, 1951 (replies)

elh: On move 11, why did Goodman re-capture with the e-pawn instead of the c-pawn? That would have avoided the minority attack, was there a good reason not to?

   Oct-31-05 Morphy vs A Morphy, 1850 (replies)

elh: Geez, why are you all so excited about this -- it's only a back rank mate. (Hee hee)

   Oct-23-05 Koltanowski vs K Diller, 1960 (replies)

elh: Probably Max Lange is more famous for the Max Lange Attack in the 2 Kts (although I only ever get it from the Scotch Gambit).
