Apr-15-05 Karpov vs Larsen, 1979 (replies)

freshstart: Larsen took great pride in his play with black. He disliked the typical grandmaster attitude of simply playing for a draw with the black pieces, and this game is a fine example of his strength on the counter-attack. Larsen also had good wins with black against Spassky and ...

Mar-18-05 Gulko vs Kasparov, 1981 (replies)

freshstart: Kasparov's kingside attack didn't look very convincing in this game. Gulko didn't have to do anything too special to win - he just blocked the attack and took the odd pawn when it was offered.

Nov-29-04 Grischuk vs Kasparov, 2004 (replies)

freshstart: < AdrianP / maoam > Thanks gentlemen. These are excellent ideas. However, I must say that as black has his queen and Queens Rook (once it moves to c8) pointed at white's king, along with mobile pawns on the "a" and "b" files, I wouldn't disregard Kasparov's chances after

Oct-27-04 Kasparov vs Antoshin, 1980 (replies)

freshstart: (30: NxD5+ ... I must be blind, cause i dont see the check. If this one shows the correct diagram, why doesnt Antoshin play... RxD5 ???) Qc6+ looks pretty decisive!

Oct-08-04 Kramnik vs Leko, 2004 (replies)

freshstart: At last - a World Championship game to get excited about! Now I see why so many GMs are scared to play the White side of the Marshall Gambit. I remember even Kasparov avoided it like the plague in his world title match with Short years ago. I hope Leko goes on to win the match - ...

Oct-07-04 Larsen vs Miles, 1979 (replies)

freshstart: Quite sneaky by Larsen. 61...Bxa7 62.Kc8 zugzwang. Black must move the king away from the bishop. Larsen always showed fighting qualities - he never gave up on a position.

   Sep-27-04 Miles vs A Yusupov, 1985 (replies)

freshstart: It's not a good game from Miles' point of view - he appears to be really outclassed here. Yusupov is a well-regarded GM, but surely Miles should have put up a better fight. His moves from 6 to 12 look like a dreadful plan. He simply invites black into the attack.
