After e3 white has no hope. Even if they play the line correctly white has developmental problems which compensate for the gambited pawn. The only fight white can put up is the Spassky Variation with e4 instead of e3 or Nf3. I didn't like the opening he played. Had Troeger played more solid after c5 he could have won.
