68 years old, male, retired, born in Uruguay, Spanish resident. Played my first official game when I was 53, quit playing when I was 60. Spanish Federation ELO 1940. I love chess but it's unrequited. If I am not a Patzer I guess I will have to do until the real thing comes along.

May-02-06 Lindemann vs Echtermeyer, 1893 (replies)

goldthread: <OhioChessFan> Is the post you mention incestiously hilarious?

   May-01-06 Tartakower vs A Gromer, 1933 (replies)

goldthread: 31... Qxe3 32. Kxe3 Bh6+ 33. Kf3 Nd4+ It does not seem that black can escape to the king side as <jperr71508> suggests.

   Apr-07-06 Sliwa vs G Stoltz, 1953 (replies)

goldthread: Over the board most of us would play, 33.Qxc6, missing 35...Rd1+, and then and only then find 37.Nb7. Lady Luck often meddles in the Royal Game.

   Jan-24-06 N Castaneda vs Y Dembo, 2001 (replies)

goldthread: Very nice combination but one wonders why white "pardoned" the e pawn on move 24 by going Rg1.

   Jan-04-06 Shirov vs Kramnik, 1996

goldthread: Shirov missed 32.Ng6+, winning immediately. Kramnik missed 33... Qxe3, which would have enabled him to keep on fighting for the draw. Looks like this was a time scramble.

   Aug-06-05 A Rodriguez Vila vs I Petrucci, 2001 (replies)

goldthread: How this was classified as a "notable" game is difficult to understand. Maybe the rationale is that it has instructional value as a lesson by black on how not to play the Dragon.

   Jul-05-05 J Houska vs G Koskoska, 2005 (replies)

goldthread: If one follows the rule: "analyze all forcing moves" one looks at Qf8 and there it is.

   Jun-23-05 J Yuchtman vs E Lazarev, 1964

goldthread: In a drawish position, 35...Qd5+ may not be the best. The black passed pawn created by the exchange of Queens is weak, because the black Rook cannot defend it and the black King is far away. By threatening to capture the pawn, white's King provokes a weakening of the kingside ...

goldthread: Sometime in the mid-to-late eighties my wife and I stayed for three weeks with my sister-in-law, who was at that time delivering mail in New York for a company called Gateway, with offices in New Jersey. One day the three of us did the full round: pick up at Kennedy Airport, ...

   Mar-30-05 E Tate vs E Schiller, 2004 (replies)

goldthread: In the annotation to his 23rd. move, Mr. Schiller states<Of course that this is not the best move, objectively.> He then gives his over-the-board rationale for making the move. And then he states: <Other moves would have left me with a miserable position with no real ...
