   May-03-15 Vassily Ivanchuk (replies)

hpavlo: Ran into Vasyl Ivanchuk today. Fanboyed all over everything inwardly. Got an autograph.

   Oct-05-08 A Kristjansson vs M Spooner, 2002 (replies)

hpavlo: "There is no spoon" is a line from The Matrix. There's a longer story, and those who are interested are redirected to the movie itself, but basically it's about overcoming your perceived limitations or unfounded fears...

   Oct-01-08 A Ushenina vs Kosteniuk, 2008 (replies)

hpavlo: OK. I am really quite tired of this by now, but I won't stop reminding everyone who keeps making this mistake that, as one of the players is Ukrainian, the pun is inappropriate...

Sep-27-08 Morphy vs Hart, 1854 (replies)

hpavlo: Right, but the reason they were 'obvious' moves was because any half-decent player rated 2000 elo or more has Morphy's legacy to fall back on; don't they?

   Sep-25-08 Spassky vs G Cappello, 1968 (replies)

hpavlo: What does one do, where does one BEGIN the process whereby one may someday hope to understand the logic behind these moves and these games? Like (to choose just one example) why 12. Nf3 and not (for instance) 12. NxN or 12. g3, followed by 13. Bg2? If all of these are valid moves, ...

Jun-30-08 Tal vs Leonov, 1949 (replies)

hpavlo: It's interesting, that an interview that I've just read with Tal says this game took place in 1948, not 1949... I've had trouble finding the game because of that, as a matter of fact.

   Aug-07-07 M Ahn vs T Ruck, 2007 (replies)

hpavlo: What is the Harry Potter variation?

   Jul-12-07 I Cheparinov vs Z Almasi, 2006 (replies)

hpavlo: Strangely enough, Ne7+ just suggested itself immediately. This is particularly strange, because I'd missed the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday puzzles. Aren't they supposed to get more difficult as the week goes on? Or is it just my luck today?

   Jul-09-07 Fischer vs W Hook, 1970 (replies)

hpavlo: Missed it completely, even though it was "very easy". What a great game by Fischer!

Jul-08-07 The World vs G Timmerman, 2007 (replies)

hpavlo: Greetings. Just joined, am really looking forward to this. Personally, I'd love to see a Scotch. Just my $ .02
