Jul-02-11 P Leonhardt vs Tarrasch, 1910

jcb: Maybe someone else has already addressed this, but what is white's response if black plays 15 ... c5 instead of 15... Bc7? I don't see how white answers the simultaneous attacks on his queen and the night. |

Jul-01-11 V Cmilyte vs J Houska, 2008
|
jcb: Maybe someone already mentioned it, but I do not understand White's 38th move. It seems to me that Rxe6 forces a win immediately: 38. rxe6 Kxe6
39. Kxc8
And Black cannot forestall the queening of the c-pawn. What am I missing? |

jcb: So where is the win after 19. Qh1 Bc6? I admit, I don't see it. Chris in Moorpark |

jcb: <ajk68> Your response doesn't seem right to me. If 73. Rxc6 Qh5+, 74.Nh2 seems to end the threat. Black can regain the piece with 74. . .Qd1+, 75.Nf1 Qxf1+, 76. Kh2, but the pawn at g2 prevents an immediate check, and there seems to be no way for the queen to prevent an ultimate ... |

jcb: Knight Life: Black's idea seems to be heading to 21...Rc3x. Why doesn't he pull the trigger on it? How about this:
20. ... Rxc3
21. N(d)c4 Rxd3
22. Nxb6 Rxf3
23. Nxc8
and Black is left with both the rook at f3 and the knight at f6 hanging. I think this combination also works ... |

jcb: In my opinion, d4 is a terrible move. After black plays Nc4, he exchanges the knight for the bishop, moves R(e)b1 and all the white pawns on the queenside fall. How can this be a good thing? We give up the minor exchange, at least one pawn, and cede control of the long black diagonal in |

Nov-03-06 M Rohde vs Miles, 1978
|
jcb: It seems to me that White goes off the track with 19. Rab1. The one obvious advantage that White has at that point is the open a-file. So why abandon it for no reason? Without going through all the calculations, it seems that White is much better with 19. c4. If 19. . . bxc4, then Bxc4 ... |

Nov-01-06 A Hashemi vs G Wachinger, 2000

jcb: al wazir: 39...Bxf3, and if 40. gxf3 then 40...Rg7 41. Qxg7+ (41. d7 Rxg5+ 42. Kf2 Qc5+, etc.) Qxg7+ 42. Kf2 Rxh4 43. d7 Rh2+ 44. Ke3 Qg5+ 45. f4 Qd8. I think the answer is:
39. . . . Bxf3
40. Rxh7+ Rxh7
41. d7 Qh7+
42. Kf2 appears to weather the storm and leave Black hanging ... |
