johnnydeep: All sorts of interesting possibilities, but I couldn't see any of them through far enough to be clearly winning, let alone mating. Such is the patzer's lament.

johnnydeep: <catlover: Does 29. Nxe7+ work as well?> Nope, since the rook that is being attacked by the queen can just take the knight that is making the check.

Jul-19-21 Robatsch vs Bisguier, 1961 (replies)

johnnydeep: Got it in short order. Nice mate via a queen sac followed by an *almost* smothered mate by the black knight, that also happens to fork the white queen to add a humiliating final touch. :-)

Jul-15-21 S Garcia Martinez vs Pomar Salamanca, 1975 (replies)

johnnydeep: "Got" the first two moves, or perhaps "guessed" is the better word. White's position seemed good after that with several subsequent mating attacks. Not bad for me "for a Thursday" ;-)

Jul-13-21 Lilienthal vs Eliskases, 1934 (replies)

johnnydeep: Damn it - I failed to see the final mating move by the bishop because I was trying too hard to mate with just the knight and queen. I really need to learn to see the ENTIRE board!

   Jul-08-21 M Rodin vs A Belozerov, 1998 (replies)

johnnydeep: The queen sac was obviously the puzzle solution, followed by the rook attack, but had the black king moved *away* from the white knight instead of toward it, he could have lasted longer (the engine says mate in 24 after 33...Kg7)

   Jul-05-21 Lagno vs D Howell, 2002 (replies)

johnnydeep: Nice. Easy Monday for me for a change. Saw it all except for the mate in 9 that the ENGINE says could result if black hadn't resigned. But at least I appreciated white's clearly winning position.

Jul-04-21 A Moiseenko vs Lu Shanglei, 2014 (replies)

johnnydeep: For a guy who as often as not fails to solve Tuesday puzzles, I actually "saw" the knight sac, and attempted queen sac, but I thought the black king would take the tempting queen bait and so be lured deep into enemy territory where mate would be assured. So, I give myself a half ...

Jun-30-21 D Howell vs Jan Turner, 2001 (replies)

johnnydeep: Nice double piece sac to clear the H file, followed by a sweet double rook file mate. Needless to say, I failed to see it.

   Jun-28-21 Kosteniuk vs C Foisor, 2012

johnnydeep: [[Willber G: <johnnydeep: [offramp: <Nov8: What happened to CG engine? > They have ditched Stockfish and are making repairs to User: crafty.] Crafty? Never heard of it. I thought Stockfish was the gold standard chess engine. Presumably they have some good reason for ...
