May-14-25 Superbet Chess Classic Romania (2025) (replies)

keithbc: I agree with the thoughts about Gukesh. Although a great player, it does (once again) throw doubts on his WC status. He appears NOT to be well out in front, just a top 5 player. Paradoxically, perhaps winning the world title did him no favours. There is only one way down. Yes, I ...

May-01-25 Superbet Blitz Poland (2025) (replies)

keithbc: Re Topalov - I agree and let's not forget also, he lost the 2006 WC match to Kramnik on tie-breaks.

Apr-27-25 Superbet Rapid Poland (2025) (replies)

keithbc: 25 mins plus 10 secs per game is not 'reaction stuff'. You are thinking of blitz or even bullet - that is more appropriate but 25+10 is quite some time to formulate some plans and strategies.

   Feb-22-25 Monaco Women's Grand Prix (2025)

keithbc: I mean since she (Gory,,) lost her world championship match,

   Feb-15-25 Ljubojevic vs Gheorghiu, 1973

keithbc: Kb1 by Ljubo was a howler but his opponent did not see the crushing reply Qa8!!

Feb-15-25 Ljubojevic vs Portisch, 1973 (replies)

keithbc: Ljubo also has a huge plus at the end (2 rooks vs 2 knights) and agreed a draw, presumably due to the tournament situation that a drew suit him - lucky Portisch.

Feb-12-25 Freestyle Grand Tour Weissenhaus (2025) (replies)

keithbc: I am really struggling to understand why Freestyle format here, we are seeing very poor play AT THE END OF THE GAMES where normal piece placings are as per classical chess??

Feb-03-25 Tata Steel Masters (2025) (replies)

keithbc: I agree that having rapid and blitz to decide a tie break is far from ideal but a tournament is 'only' a tournament. It should never be used as a format to decide something as huge as the word championship. Play on until someone wins a game. As I thought, Caruana is not the strength

   Jan-06-25 Fischer vs Huebner, 1970

keithbc: seems a bit odd that Fischer did not continue here as really had nothing to lose as still could draw even if he lost all the pawns!

Jan-01-25 Ivanchuk vs Naroditsky, 2024 (replies)

keithbc: did Ivanchuk lose on time?
