kenkur: Not many left of that generation of strong GMs- Spassky, Portisch, Hort, Uhlmann...(I'm thinking of those who made it to Candidates Matches and beyond)

Nov-21-16 Carlsen vs Karjakin, 2016 (replies)

kenkur: The thing with these kind of openings is that all the pieces are on the board, almost all the pawns too. So there must be scope for a lot of middle game manoeuvering and trying to outwit your opponent. Well, in club chess at least.

Nov-19-16 Karjakin vs Carlsen, 2016 (replies)

kenkur: Does anybody know why they will play two consecutive games with the same colour after the rest day? I recall reading about the reason during another match, but can't remember what it was.

   Sep-07-16 Baku Olympiad (2016) (replies)

kenkur: I've heard that what happens at the Bermuda party STAYS at the Bermuda party. Not surprising given that these are mostly young single folks, including many beautiful women.

   Sep-07-16 Alexandra Botez (replies)

kenkur: Always thought that names ending in -ez were Spanish but I guess I was wrong. Then again Romanian, like Spanish is a Latin (not like the country's Slavic neighbours) culture.

Jan-18-15 Jobava vs Carlsen, 2015 (replies)

kenkur: "Is there any video or audio recording out there with Alekhine's voice?" -Yes there is, speaking in English. Somewhat high pitched voice (as is also the case with Karpov). Earliest chess World Champ to have his voice recorded is probably Capablanca (maybe Lasker, but I haven't heard ...

   May-18-14 US Championship (2014) (replies)

kenkur: I see no problem with 'promoting the crap out of chess', as long as they don't make some rule changes to dumb it down and make it more 'accessible' to the masses (I have read such suggestions, usually involving the injection of more elements of chance, a la poker). But some seem to ...

   May-18-14 A Eswaran vs A Zatonskih, 2014

kenkur: If Ashritha had tried to play super-solid 'GM style' chess, she would likely have been ground down in an ending that Anna could play in her sleep. Aggressive play may not work that well against the elite, but there's always a chance they might go wrong.

May-14-14 US Championship (Women) (2014) (replies)

kenkur: Pointing out that all the participants in this championship are immigrants (mostly from Eastern Europe)is not necessarily 'anti-immigrant' or 'racist'. It just illustrates that adult women's chess is not part of American culture- were it not for these 'imports', the tournament would ...

   May-03-14 Akash G vs Caruana, 2013 (replies)

kenkur: I know in Chinese culture, LN, FN is standard. In Western Europe, N.America LN, FN is used only for `formal` lists or documents, otherwise FN, LN. Eastern Europe seems to be sort of in the middle.
