May-11-22 Seirawan vs M Rivas Pastor, 1980 (replies)

mainechess: I was drawn to 16.Qc2 as the bishop on b7, plus pawn on e7 seemed like the only tactical liabilities at first. It turns out the knight on b8 is as well. Nice game by Yasser.

   May-11-22 Fine vs W Winter, 1936

mainechess: Modern analysis has suggested that Alekhine's recommendation of 12...g5 does not give black a good initiative. It's hard to say as he didn't give more variations so we're not sure what he had in mind, but white can castle queenside and black won't be able to attack him there. If ...

Sep-16-21 Carlsen - Caruana World Championship Match (2018) (replies)

mainechess: Caruana may be the only one to never lose a game in world championship match play, but he's one of the only ones to never win a game as well! The only other two are Janowski and Marshall I'm pretty sure, if we're only including reasonably undisputed world title matches.

   Jul-15-21 World Cup (2021) (replies)

mainechess: beatgiant is right and jphamlore would you prefer going back to the pre sinqufield era when America had only one player 2700 plus? How could you possibly say that the STL chess club is inhibiting talent? Nobody?s chess is being inhibited by the presence of the Sinquefields.

   Jul-15-21 Gelfand vs A Braun, 2021

mainechess: 16...0-0 by Black seems a little careless. 16...Bxc4 17.Qxc4 Qa5+ forces the king to f1 where it is worse placed than in the game. Of course 18...g6 is just horrible.

   May-03-18 Matthew E Fishbein (replies)

mainechess: Maine state champion 2016 and 2018. Co-champion 2012 and 2013.
