   Jul-02-25 Kavalek vs Matulovic, 1966

mginsburg: Black had an amazing save, as pointed out in Kavalek's autobiography. 14...Nf6!! 15. Bg5 Bh6!! and black is OK. Not many people would find this OTB, and white would have been shocked.

   May-06-25 M Ginsburg vs Dzindzichashvili, 1979 (replies)

mginsburg: 16. e7! (Excelsior) is the key move. If 16...Re8 then 17. Nd5 Nxd5 18. Bxh7+ wins.

   Apr-29-25 F Bohatirchuk vs Botvinnik, 1935 (replies)

mginsburg: In Kavalek's autobiography, he mentions Krylenko (a senior party official who was executed in 1938 in one of Stalin's purges) was a big supporter of Botvinnik and spoke threateningly to Bohatirchuk after the game. Kavalek then remarks that Bohatirchuk "retired to his field of ...

   Apr-29-25 Fischer vs Keres, 1962

mginsburg: 68. Nxd6 Kc7 69. Nxa4 Kxd6 70 Nxc5 Kxc5 71 Ra7 draws. The game move 68. Rf2 was a bad blunder. Now, 69. Nxd6 a move later is bad, due to 69...Bh3+! 70 Kg3 Rxf2 71 Kxf2 Kc7 72 Ne8+ Kd8 73 Nd6 Ke7! and wins. So the big miss in the ending was on move 68.

   Apr-24-25 M Ginsburg vs Larsen, 1974

mginsburg: I find it amusing that white did a Giuoco Piano opening due to not knowing any theory, but nowadays top level GMs play the same opening with the approval of strong engines.

   Apr-22-25 Spielmann vs Rubinstein, 1907

mginsburg: White's g2-g4 is way too early and quite naive but Rubinstein misses the obvious h7-h5 counter (g5 Nh7 Kg2 d5). There is no foundation for white's "attack" and he has already lost the bishop pair.

Apr-22-25 Spassky vs Petrosian, 1966 (replies)

mginsburg: This game had a very large number of ! and !! moves for black, perhaps one of the most in any world championship game.

   Mar-29-25 Geller vs Keres, 1951

mginsburg: However after 17...Rce8 white has 18. Rxe7! Qxe7 19. Ng3 Qd6 and white is a small bit better. It is hard to say what black's best is. This line or 17...h6 18. Bxh6 Rfd8 (necessary).

   Mar-13-25 Keymer vs C Aravindh, 2025 (replies)

mginsburg: Keymer played 9. Qb3 quickly but 9. Bc4 is much easier to play. Black will never have the ...e5 break. White is just better.

   Mar-05-25 Reshevsky vs M Ginsburg, 1980

mginsburg: What looks so smooth is actually not really, engines rudely point out black is better on move 12 or 13. On move 12, just play ...a5 right away. Same thing on move 13. Slightly different ideas, on move 12 we have the idea 12...a5! 13 Rb1 axb4 14 axb4 Bxf4! 15 exf4 Nb6! ⩱ On ...
