Hello! I'm John and I used to play for my County of Essex in the uk. I reached a bcf grading of 160. I was a late starter and didn't take up chess until reaching my mid thirties. I now play internet speed chess, generally two to three minute games. My Favorite player is Victor Korchnoi because of his somewhat unusual approach, his longevity in the top echelons, and his dogged resourcefulness in the face of frequent time trouble. I have spent a good proportion of my life in the music business as a guitarist vocalist, performing, songwriting and recording. I retired from performing a few years ago and I am presently driving trucks, I have recently passed my class 1 test enabling me to drive articulated vehicles. I enjoy photography, wildlife, cars, motorcycles, computing and gardening. I find that when I'm playing chess, any problems I might have, completely disappear from my mind because it's such an involving pastime.

patzernic: OR A.Amearat has a phycological aversion to capturing queens. It's possible that he could have been The World Champion if it wasn't for this piffleing minor fault in his chess playing psyche.

patzernic: Thats an interesting insight and could apply to us mortals. We often feel when we play that we've got to be making things happen. When sometimes it may be better to play quietly and let our opponents dig there own graves.

patzernic: In this position 17... h5 seems to waste a tempo and allow white to connect his rooks. An immediate 17 ... Bxb2 leads to a very long winded and drawing game. 17 b3 appears better and seems to favor white in the endgame. analysis by chessmaster. ie 17 b3 Bc3 18 Rd5 Be6 19 Rc5 Bd4 ...

patzernic: I swear at my chess pieces and my pool balls, especially if my opponents ball does a knight move.
