   May-18-10 Shabalov vs L Christiansen, 2010 (replies)

raychandler: It's a pleasure to see Christiansen doing so well. I've always admired his play and his style.

   May-04-10 Florencio Campomanes (replies)

raychandler: I can believe Schiller posted that. Haven't most of you figured out that Schiller is a spiteful windbag as well as a hack. That comment is typical of this not very bright fellow.

Apr-21-10 Spassky vs Bronstein, 1960 (replies)

raychandler: I believe this was the game that was used as the game played by the SMERSH agent near the beginning of the Bond movie "From Russia With Love".

   Mar-27-10 A Soltis vs Suttles, 1973

raychandler: "Obviously, 16. b3! foresees 17. Qxd7+! and possibly even 19. Nxe5+!." I'm inclined to think that Soltis might have calculated "15. ... Nc4 16. b3! at least as far as 20. f4! before playing 15. Qd3. Otherwise he might have chosen 15. Qc5, leading to either an exchange of queens ...

Feb-26-10 Korchnoi vs Karpov, 1973 (replies)

raychandler: This was actually the second time Karpov played 2. ... b5 after 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.g3 The first time was against Anthony Saidy in San Antonio in 1972. He won a fine positional masterpiece. He seemed to handle this pseudo-Queen's Indian set up well.

Feb-11-10 Andersson vs Huebner, 1981 (replies)

raychandler: The opening actually transposes into a Catalan very early on.

   Dec-29-09 Spassky - Korchnoi Match (2009) (replies)

raychandler: The games seem of poor quality for grandmaster of their experience and level. The draws (except for the last, which seems prearranged) are more interesting than the wins.

Dec-23-09 Korchnoi vs Spassky, 2009 (replies)

raychandler: This game made no sense. Korchnoi seemed to be playing for a loss.

Dec-23-09 Spassky vs Karpov, 1974 (replies)

raychandler: Someone who made a hobby out of playing the black side of the closed Ruy Lopez found the Caro Kann "depressingly passive"?

   Dec-17-09 Korchnoi vs L Javakhishvili, 2008 (replies)

raychandler: To someone of Korchnoi's generation, being held to a draw by a mere slip of a girl would probably be seen as a loss, no?
