Dec-07-19 London Chess Classic GCT Finals (2019) (replies)
starry2013: I remember reading that they do normally use the full name. So calling him Ding is a bit strange, and in Western terms even stranger, when they speak to Carlsen they don't tend to call him 'Carlsen'.

starry2013: I wish Aronian had taken part in the chess960 as he is one of the better players at it, but I'm glad attempts are being made to make it a serious and official competition.
   Nov-06-19 Magnus Carlsen (replies)
starry2013: Opening theory may be considered a major part of the game but the reality is it's something totally alien to most of the audience. The natural skill element of chess can sometimes be superceded now by years of experience. Maybe if more of a balance between the two, and computers ...
   Oct-12-19 A Sarana vs Carlsen, 2019 (replies)
starry2013: It's not always easy in the computer age when you against prep as black, Carlsen needs to take risks to win in some circumstances but it can be too dangerous. It's remarkable he has the rating he has considering the impact of computers.
Oct-09-19 Isle of Man Grand Swiss (2019) (replies)
starry2013: I don't mind a reasonable rapid time control for tiebreaks, but not blitz.

starry2013: When was the last non-Russian player a wildcard?
   Sep-04-19 Sinquefield Cup (2019) (replies)
starry2013: Kasparov is just too slow now. But what puzzles me is why Sinquefield thought that the match format was worth redoing, he should just admit he was wrong and have everyone play each other. Just like last year you find a lot of lopsided matches.
Aug-16-19 GCT St. Louis Rapid & Blitz (2019) (replies)
starry2013: What won it for Aronian was Ding not being quite quick enough to hit the clock in a drawn position.
   Jul-25-19 Ding Liren (replies)
starry2013: Ding admitted a month or so ago that he was tired and needed rest, but he still had other things on his schedule.
   Jun-15-19 Norway Chess (2019) (replies)
starry2013: There was more excitement even just in the classical games than you find in many such 'super' GM tournaments. I have a feeling some just don't want to change their position.
