   Mar-02-12 M Shereshevsky vs Kupreichik, 1976 (replies)

twisted eye: It's 'White to play anything BUT Bxh7+' essential, a spoiler day. Me? Fell for the trick, hook, line, and sinker. Playing Bxh7+ first is the trap play, and being this late in the week, I should've been suspicious of something so 'obvious.'

   Jan-21-12 W A Brown vs R Kneebone, 1985 (replies)

twisted eye: Gotta love that 21. Nd5. Beautiful example of forethought there. Trying to jump straight to g6 allows for ...Bg5+ and ...Qg5+ to disrupt the immediate mate, though it certainly doesn't leave Black in a good position to retaliate.

   Dec-24-11 Y Hou vs M Sebag, 2011 (replies)

twisted eye: Slick ending, and a clever GotD title as well, nice!

Jan-06-11 McShane vs Carlsen, 2010 (replies)

twisted eye: Came to say the same thing Seiken said; I was wholly expecting Magnus to trounce Luke here, given the pun, and instead he barely ever got out of the starting gate. Excellent play from McShane, pinning the queen off near the corner and squeezing in. With the exception of a little

   Oct-06-10 Bareev vs J Piket, 2000 (replies)

twisted eye: after 22...Rxd6 23. Rxd6 Qxd6 24. c5+, Black's queen is under attack from the discovered check. The only way to save her from the pawn is to block the White queen's check; however, both places to put her, she just gets taken anyway, either by White's queen or bishop, drastically

Jul-26-10 Iturrizaga Bonelli vs V Kulakov, 2008 (replies)

twisted eye: Huh, for once, the Monday Queen Death is the opposing player's piece!

Jun-24-10 The Baron vs Rybka, 2010

twisted eye: Awesome as 18. Nc6 would be, the bishop has that knight pinned to his king. After 18. ..Rg8 19. Nc6, then 19. ..Bb7 pins the knight to his queen, and with the rook pointing right at white's king...well it looks dangerous.

   Sep-13-09 D Rogozenco vs A Nguyen, 1994 (replies)

twisted eye: Couldn't see anything really forcing, so my idea is f5. Forget the rook, all pawns ahead. My guess was right, but no idea what specifically would happen.

   Jan-14-09 Fischer vs J Sherwin, 1962 (replies)

twisted eye: b6 is forced, though. 28. Ne7 is checkmate for all other moves that don't involve terrible sacrifices, leading to the game playing out as here, eventually letting the bishop escape exchange and later to white's win.

Dec-02-08 Spassky vs Fischer, 1970 (replies)

twisted eye: <D4n: 39...why not Nxf1? That would put Fischer up a rook. That just seems like a better move...am I missing something?> If 34. ...Nxf1, then 35. Nd5+ or Ne8+ wins Black's queen.
